Dear Angels,

This week is National Volunteers Week which is a great opportunity to thank you again for volunteering as a Welshpool Community Angel. We know that not everyone has yet had chance to help someone in need, but the important thing is that just having such a large group of volunteers means we can confidently offer to help anyone in the town & surrounding area and we know that this greatly reassures those who are self-isolating and feeling vulnerable. As project co-ordinators we have received a lots of appreciation for the work you are doing and we’re taking this opportunity to let you know that our Angels are hugely appreciated by the people we are caring for locally. We also often receive very grateful emails from their relatives who are too far away to be able to help and are really grateful that you are looking after our community so well. Thank You

We have recently received quite a few donations to support our work and we will be using some of that money to mail the whole community to ensure that no-one has missed out on hearing about the support we can offer. In the next couple of weeks we will also be providing a little box of goodies for those we have helped, which will hopefully brighten their day.

A couple of other bits of information that may be of use to you:

Most banks have now provided their customers with ways of accessing their funds without leaving their home, and some major supermarkets are also providing ways to make it easier to shop on behalf of others. Details of all of these schemes are going on our website, so if paying for shopping on behalf of others is proving problematic, please check the website and pass the information on to the people you are helping. If the problems can’t be easily solved please talk to one of us.

Some of you have kindly been helping individuals on a regular basis with monthly prescriptions etc. If at any point you are unable to continue with this arrangement, or need to take some time off, just ring one of us and we’ll arrange for someone else to cover it. Please don’t struggle unnecessarily when we have others keen to help.

Don’t forget to let us know if you need to self-isolate after coming into contact with someone who has the virus. Similarly let us know when you are back out of self-isolation.

Now that lockdown is beginning to ease, we appreciate that some of you will be returning to work or may no longer be able to help for other reasons. Please let us know if this is the case.

Even when lockdown is ended Covid 19 will still be a threat and there will be people who continue to self-isolate because they are in higher-risk categories. We will therefore still have people who need help from time to time so will keep our database of volunteers until there is no longer a need for them. If you do not want your name and contact details to be retained on the database please let us know.

Once again, thank you so much for being ready to help out in the community – many people have commented how it proves what a caring community we live in. Diolch yn fawr iawn!
